Meet James Kademan from Calls on Call

What do you enjoy the most about your industry?  I love two things about it, one is that it is a pure necessity to have communication in business, so it is sustainable.  The second is that most of our competition relies on a churn and burn model for both employees and clients, which makes us look great as an employer and a vendor.

How do you define success?  Achieving the defined goals that you have created while enjoying the process of achieving them.

Who inspires you? I have a long list there, but mostly my son.  That guy is so driven and I know I cannot be the dad that idly watches.  I need to be the inspiration for him as well.

What challenges do you face and how do you overcome them?  I face the same challenges every business owner faces.  They come down to employees, marketing and leadership.  I overcome them by giving attention to them every single day.  That hasn’t stopped them from being challenging, but it has helped me keep my sanity.

What advice would you give a young professional starting out today?  Have a plan, get some advice, and build your business.  Expect challenges, setbacks and a few expensive lessons.  Acknowledge, improvise and move on is almost always the best course of action.

In what ways has your chamber membership benefited your business?   The contacts have been great.  Also, the remote networking has been a big help as we navigate fewer in-person networking opportunities.

What is something you cannot live without?  My motorcycle.  There is no better therapy than a curvy stretch of uninhabited road to force your mind to concentrate on something that forces you to lean into whatever challenge you are dealing with, despite your ill-fated desire to grab a handful of brake.

What’s something about you that most people may not know (favorite band, favorite food, childhood memory, etc.)?  I have a podcast that has been going for over three years, called Authentic Business Adventures.  Check it out on YouTube or any podcast app.
